8. ACTION ITEMS

8b: Plastics/Polystyrene

What is under consideration: Single Use Plastic Prohibition Expansion (Report)

  1. Motion to direct staff to prepare an ordinance to regulate the use and distribution of single use plastics food service ware, polystyrene food service ware, polystyrene coolers, polystyrene food packaging trays and on-premises dining reusable food service ware

GEC SUPPORTS THE MOTION ABOVE.

*TAKE ACTION on ITEM 8b:

ACTION REQUEST: Support. Please ask City Council to support moving forward with option 1, asking staff to prepare an ordinance. Glendale has piloted this in its own facilities and events, and waited through the pandemic to expand the ordinance. Now we must go city-wide to address reducing the avalanche of single-use plastic and polystyrene thrown away daily in our city.

You can watch via the MyGlendale YouTube channel. Call in when this item is up.

8c: Reach Code

What is under consideration: Amendment to the City of Glendale Building Code to Require All Electric Design, Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic, and Higher Energy Performance for New Construction (Report)

  1. Motion directing staff to hire a consultant to assist the city in preparing a reach code to incorporate requirements for all-electric design, rooftop solar photovoltaic, and higher energy performance for new construction into the City of Glendale Building & Safety Code
  2. Resolution of appropriation in the amount of $50,000 to hire a consultant to prepare a reach code

GEC SUPPORTS BOTH THE MOTION AND THE RESOLUTION ABOVE.

*TAKE ACTION on ITEM 8c:

ACTION REQUEST: SUPPORT. Please ask City Council to support hiring a consultant to assist Glendale in quickly preparing and passing a reach code that requires all-electric construction for all new residential and commercial construction in our city, and that builds on the state solar PV mandate by also requiring storage to be installed where it is cost-effective to do so.

You can watch via the MyGlendale YouTube channel. Call in when this item is up.
