Now Hiring! Glendale’s first Sustainability Officer! GEC thanks the Glendale City Council and City Staff for supporting this new position. In order to be effective, it is our hope that all city contracts and agreements go through an environmental review before execution. It is our further hope that the office have the authority to set goals to which the individual city departments will be held accountable and that this department will expand  beyond 1 person. Thanks to the hard work of EcoMotion and it’s director, Ted Flanigan for helping to get this department off the ground! Things we know:

  • The office will be staffed with one person.
  • The job posting has been listed​ and is expected to be filled (pending qualified applicants) within 4-6 months. Posting closes 3/13/2020
  • The planned Sustainability Office will be housed in the Management Services Department and report to the City Manager or her designee.
  • Some of the goals of this office include but are not limited to facilitate increase in environmental sustainability throughout the city; coordinate with other operating departments on sustainability and environmental programs and projects; serve as a resource for the public regarding the City’s sustainable programs, events, and activities; promote environmental, economic, and social sustainability programs; keep abreast of emerging trends, innovative practices, and changes to legislative and technical developments; prepare and administer the City’s Sustainability Plan and provide periodic updates to the City Manager, City Council, and the community.

There will be an update provided to city council, but the date hasn’t been set. We will let our members know when that has been scheduled—in order to offer community input and/or support.
