Special Note:  This meeting has passed, but contains valuable reports we wanted to share! There are two reports. Item 8A describes the Equitable Participatory Budgeting Framework & Recommendations (give YOUR feedback here) and Item 8B offers Integrated Waste Director Etienne Ozorak’s presentation and overview of waste management efforts in Glendale. Re item 8B, learn about hauling compliance rates and the need to require diversion requirements for haulers so they will be held accountable for tonnage (of recycling and organic waste in particular), waste routes, plans for a re-vamped recycling center, plans for LA Compost collaborations for compost drop off sites (and the recent collaboration with Glendale Community College on those efforts), a new pickup site for finished compost at Brand Park in the works, edible food recovery getting a boost with financial assistance, education efforts regarding organics recycling, the Green Business Program, and more.

In addition, the commission welcomes the newest Student Commissioner Ms. Sanchez, discusses why the City and venders at City events are using diesel generators to power things like lights that could be plugged in to City electric outlets and requests followup, and announces two upcoming Sustainability department events:

b. Integrated Waste Management: Update on SB 1383 and City Recycling Programs
SLIDE PRESENTATION

Interested in Organics Recycling? GEC created a webpage on this topic when the program first rolled out. It includes a video about how the Puente Hills Facility works with our bagged organic waste to create a sludge for biogas creation and tries to answer other questions people might have.

Interested in the Green Business Program? GEC created a webpage on this topic also, with a few specific questions answered. If you have a business and want to participate – please do! You can save resources and money. Glendale has currently certified 77 businesses since 2019.
